I'd like to share with you a great idea that was e-mailed to me by one of my customers that had a boat without a boat winch.
To get around this problem, my customer secured a permanent mount on the bow of his aluminum river boat to mount his chainsaw powered Lewis Winch and use it as a boat winch.
He was happy to use the portable winch he already owned and not have to go out and buy an electric winch because he was concerned that it would drain his boat's battery and leave him stranded.
He uses the Lewis Winch as an anchor winch. He also says that he can run a line ashore and tie it to a tree or rock to pull his boat off a sandbar if the water gets too skinny and he runs aground.
But the main reason he has the Lewis Winch on board is for hunting. He uses his boat to run up the rivers in remote northern British Columbia where he hunts deer and moose. He says that the Lewis Winch is an essential tool he uses to drag the animals into his boat and out of swamps without having to quarter them.
He uses the same set-up to winch a moose right into the back of his pick-up truck by himself. See photo.
